Hi, my name is Mary Wilson and I'm a park ranger here at Yellowstone National Park. Well, at Trout Lake there's a lot of things for kids and families to see and do. It's a short hike. It's only about 1/2 mile or so up to the lake. It's a really beautiful hike through the forest. You may have a chance to see a variety of wildlife. If you're lucky you might see some deer, elk, and probably a lot of different kinds of birds. It's also a good spot for especially young kids to toss a line and try their hand at fishing. And it's a great place just to relax, have a picnic lunch, take a stroll along the lake, and just enjoy the wild beauty of Yellowstone. Trout Lake is a great place to bring families. It's tucked away nicely from the normal tourist areas. On the trip here you get to see bison crossing right in front of your car. And the wildflowers along the trail hiking up here was just beautiful. And seeing the look on a kid's face when they catch their first fish, after being so excited, was just fantastic. It was really great to see them reel it in and I got to help them, you know, release it.
- Fishing fans will find it well worth the short hike to this tranquil lake. Wildlife sightings are almost guaranteed.
