Hi, my name is Kathy Bell, and I'm a park ranger here at Old Faithful in Yellowstone National Park. Old Faithful is a fantastic place for families to come because it's one of nature's most famous spectacles. Geysers are incredibly rare geologic features, and here, in the Old Faithful area, we have more of them than in the rest of the world combined. Old Faithful is famous because it's a very big geyser, it's one that erupts frequently, and it's one that we can actually tell you when to expect. One of the most interesting places in the park is the Fountain Paint Pot area in the Lower Geyser Basin. There you'll take a walk on a half mile loop of boardwalk that takes you past all four kinds of thermal feature that we have here in Yellowstone. Mud pots are favorites for lots of people. They are pools of bubbling, burbling, highly acidic mud.
Looks like sauce or something.
Oh yeah, tomato sauce.
You'll also see, over there, some erupting geysers and some beautiful hot springs with gorgeous colors around them. Yellowstone, and Old Faithful in particular, really become a family tradition with a lot of meaning for a lot of people.
