Hi, my name is Mary Wilson and I'm a park ranger here at Yellowstone National Park. We are at Mammoth Hot Springs on the north end of the park. Mammoth Hot Springs Terraces are kind of like no place else on earth. One of the things that I think is neatest about the terraces is the idea that when you're standing there watching the water run over the terraces you're really watching rock form right before your eyes - one of the only places in the world where you can actually do that. Also, all the colors up on the Mammoth Hot Springs Terraces, those are heat loving microorganisms and they're pretty amazing creatures, very, very small, but powerful. At the Albright Visitor Center, there's a history exhibit on the first floor and then the second floor is pretty much a wildlife display - all the different types of wildlife that we have
What would you do if you saw one of those?
And also, when you're done with that and you're interested in staying in the area, there's a campground here, it's just below the visitor's center. There is a ranger program there every evening to help you learn more about some of the great things at Yellowstone.
- Sulfur makes it smelly but the Mammoth area captivates kids with intriguing natural attractions.
