Shake things up with your family this Valentines Day! These Peppermint Pals are a fast, fun project for all ages. Our family prefers the shaken not stirred method.

8 cups rice cereal squares, divided
2 Tbsp. solid vegetable shortening (NOT butter, margarine, spread or oil)
5-6 oz. vanilla candy coating (almond bark) or chips
½ cup crushed hard peppermint candy
5-6 oz. semisweet chocolate candy coating or chips
½ cup powdered sugar
1 cup small chocolate candies
2 Tbsp. solid vegetable shortening (NOT butter, margarine, spread or oil)
5-6 oz. vanilla candy coating (almond bark) or chips
½ cup crushed hard peppermint candy
5-6 oz. semisweet chocolate candy coating or chips

How to Make
Microwave vanilla candy and 1 Tbsp. shortening in a medium, uncovered container on high for 1 minute. Stir. Continue to cook for 15-second intervals, stirring each time until smooth.
Add 4 cups of the cereal and peppermint candy. Stir or cover container with tight-fitting lid and shake until evenly coated.
In another bowl, microwave chocolate candy and 1 Tbsp. shortening in the same manner, stirring until smooth.
Add remaining 4 cups cereal and powdered sugar; mix until evenly coated.
Combine cereal mixtures and candy pieces together.

Tips for Taking a Great Photo:
- Avoid clutter. Keep the background simple -- your cupcake or sweet treat is the star!
- Daytime, natural light is best. If your area is bright enough, try taking the photo without the flash.
- Upload a horizontal photo. If you crop the image on your computer, make sure you keep a landscape 4:3 aspect ratio.
- For best results, make your image 1200x900 (or "save for web").
- With a digital camera, you can take as many photos as possible and choose the best one. Have fun!
