Description

Tainted Love doesn't have to be a bad thing. :D It can mean that a person's love has consumed you to a point where if they're gone for just a moment, you long for them so strongly because you've been tainted by their love! These Tainted Love cakes will show anyone how strongly they've impacted your life with all their lavish love. Return the favor by treating them to these luscious cakes, tainted with pink and purple layers, and a silky green icing, topped with pink and purple crystal sprinkles. A delectable hit for those with passion!

Ingredients

Cake:

1 package of white cake mix
3 eggs
1/2 cup of oil
1/3 cup of water

1 tub of green frosting
Pink and purple food coloring
Pink and purple crystal sprinkles

How to Make

  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees
Have three medium sized bowls ready.

Whisk the eggs first until yolks and whites are combined. Slowly add white cake mix, a little at a time until it absorbs the eggs.

Pour in the oil and mix, slowly adding the rest of the cake mix. Add water to and continue to combine with a wooden spoon until you reach a nice, thick consistency.

  • Next, divide the batter evenly over the other two bowls. You should have three bowls (including the one you mixed it in) with an equal amount of batter.

In the first two bowls, add pink food coloring and mix until you reach the shade you like. In the third bowl, add purple food coloring and combine well.

You now have two bowls of pink batter, and one bowl of purple batter.

Take an 8-inch baking pan, and spray it with non-stick cooking spray. Pour the pink batter in from the first bowl and allow it to bake for about 10 to 15 minutes, depending on your oven.

Insert a toothpick into the center to make sure it's fully baked. It might look soft from the top. If that's the case, put it on the top rack of the oven for a few more minutes until it's fluffy to the touch. Remove it from the oven and allow it to cool for 15 minutes.

Remove it from the pan and place it on a square of wax paper. Follow the same directions for the other two bowls of batter.

Once all three cake layers have cooled, take a heart-shaped cookie cutter, and cut out four hearts from each. You may use a larger cooking pan to cut out more. It depends on the size of the cookie-cutter. :D

  • Next, take a pink heart, put a small dollop of green frosting on it, and place a purple heart on top. Put another small dollop of frosting on the purple heart, and then place a pink heart on top of that.

Take some wax paper and put it on a plate. Put the layered heart on the wax paper for this next step. Take the tub of green frosting and microwave it for 40 seconds. Take it out and mix it with a spoon. Pour the now silky, green icing over the layered and tainted heart :) until it completely covers it.

Quickly add the sprinkles, half with pink and the other half with purple (or however you desire), because the icing dries leaving a glossy finish. Sprinkling while the icing is still wet immediately after pouring is best.

Place the heart in the freezer for eight minutes. Pull it out of the freezer to remove wax paper from bottom and leave a nice, clean finish!

Continue to do the same with the rest.

Place the hearts on a plate of your choice, and enjoy your TAINTED LOVE! ;-)

  • Tips for Taking a Great Photo:
    • Avoid clutter. Keep the background simple -- your cupcake or sweet treat is the star!
    • Daytime, natural light is best. If your area is bright enough, try taking the photo without the flash.
    • Upload a horizontal photo. If you crop the image on your computer, make sure you keep a landscape 4:3 aspect ratio.
    • For best results, make your image 1200x900 (or "save for web").
    • With a digital camera, you can take as many photos as possible and choose the best one. Have fun!
