Parent Moments: Over Mothering

You, indeed, are a very wise mom! Think about it.....when those two little pumpkins are grown and on their own, will you be there to step in when they have a heated discussion or disagreement on what candidate to vote for or what candy bars should be stocked in the work vending machines? Of course not! You, my wise and intelligent friend, are giving them the skills to survive when they leave the nest. And who knows, you may have a politician and top notch debater on your hands! Bravo!

Parent Moments: Three Times, You Win

February 06, 2008

My youngest child had what the pediatrician called "intense personality". In other words, she'd scream from 6 pm till 2 am, every night while I grew new gray hairs each and every minute. The best piece of advice I ever recieved was when I read an article by Dr. T. Berry Brazilton about betime and "self soothing". He stated that I child should be given a "lovey" (whether that's a teddy bear, blanket or socket wrench) that they could soothe themselves with. Hmmmmmmmmmm, nice thought, doc, but will it work? I dug through my baby shower haul and pulled out this miniture blanket called a "Baby Morgan" and gave it to my hysterical child. She's now 10 years old and STILL has that tattered piece of fabric that is tucked under her pillow and comes out every night for a cuddle! Me? I found that hair color works wonders for all the grays I EARNED when she was a baby!
