What I've Been Talking About
Letting Go of "Lovey"
We all have our security issues no matter how old we are. For most of us it is food or shopping. What is the problem with letting our children continue to have a blanket or stuffed animal untill they are ready to let go? It doesn't hurt them in any physical way and wouldn't it be more harmful pshycologically if we pulled away from them so quickly?
My daughter is 4 and has had her "Lamby" since she was 4 weeks old. I would never take it from her however we do have our rules. Lamby must stay at home unless we are taking a trip and then she stays in the car or hotel room.
Let your children have some peace in this rapid pace world.
Walt Disney World®
Mary Poppins to the Rescue
It was Christmas 2006 when my husband and I suprised our three girls with a trip to Disney World for Christmas. We loaded up in the car...Dad, Mom, Anna, Tori, Abbi and "Lamby". "Lamby" is our middle childs special friend, a stuffed lamb. She goes every where with her.On our third day while we were visiting Epcot she dropped "Lamby". We stopped everything we were doing and searched amongest the thousands of people for her. She was no where to be found so I did just as any mom would do...went immediatly and filed a missing person report, prayed and offered her any stuffed animal that Disney made. Nothing would do.
After two sleepless nights and days we returned back to our room for a break and noticed the message light on the phone blinking. I quickly picked it up and listened attentivly..."Miss Tori I believe I have a speacial package for you at the front desk! I will be waiting for you to come down." I grabbed Tori and ran to the front desk telling her there was someone waiting to see her.
When we got there she handed Tori a Disney bag and she curiously opened while all the cast members up front looked on. She spotted "Lamby" and pulled her out quickly. She gave her the biggest hug ever and squilled. Everyone clapped realizing the magic of the moment. Also enclosed was an autographed picture of Mary Poppins. She wrote on the back "When I found this little guy I knew that he was special and that I had to find its home. "
That my friends is the magic of Disney! They realized in the end of the day mess of all the crowds that this little guy was truly special.
Since then "Lamby" stays at home tucked away nice and secure in bed awaiting Tori's arrival every evening.
