What I've Been Talking About
Homeschooling
We started homeschooling when my son was in sixth grade and never looked back. He graduated this past June, 2007, at the age of 20, from the University of California, Irvine, with a degree in computer science. He now works as a software developer. My daughter is graduating from our wonderful homeschool high school this year and will be pursuing a degree in graphic arts in college. Of course she wants to work for Disney! Homeschool gave us the most wonderful life, but it is not for everyone, and for that I feel badly for "regular" schoolers and their families.
Being in Orange County, California, we had the advantage of using our county department of education homeschooling program, which is wonderful. The teachers are always there for support and greet every student and parent with a smile and a hug! Unbelievable support from teachers who really care about their students. We made friends for life. Can "regular" public school kids say that? Besides, with homeschooling, a weekly "field trip" to Disneyland is almost mandatory!
Not Acceptable?Guest Book
Hello from another Laurel! I'm 37 and live in Georgia.I homeschooled my son for about half a year during first grade. He's very much a social learner and craved a classroom environment. My daughter is ready for kindergarten now and I'm dreading sending her off. She's NOT a social learner and I'm trying to make the decision on whether or not to homeschool her. Any thoughts on homeschool one child and not the other??Thanks for your time!
