About Me

When I'm not writing here or at Where's My Cape?, I can be found practicing internal medicine, teaching, chasing my daughter with my son on my hip, and not sleeping nearly enough. I don't trust squirrels farther than I can throw them.

About My Family

My husband and I have an almost 3-year old daughter Jolie, an unusually large but agile sumo-child whose laugh is probably the sweetest thing I've ever heard. Our newborn son is already topping the growth charts, vying for top sumo-child position in our household. We have a cat who thinks I still like him.

Happy belated birthday to the Cheese! (my first public nursing debut was the communal dressing room at Loehmann's. The dressing room attendant was NOT pleased.)

Little Miss Manners

We're struggling with manners too, or, lack thereof. Our version is "Kank oo!"

Our overtired child

March 27, 2008
Jolie, our almost 3-year old, has been freaking us out with her behavior lately. She has crying fits whenever she is frustrated, even in very minor ways. For example, Grandpa emptied her potty chair today without realizing that she needed to do that (she must do ALL things herself), and felt her wrath descend upon him. Seriously, it's not like he wanted to do it. Yet one thing led to another and attempts to wipe her now running nose and eyes... Read More

Baby Monitor Dependency

March 23, 2008
From the first night we moved Jolie into her own room after sharing ours, we've had a baby monitor on duty. I, going through much anguish and turmoil to be separated from my daughter, kept the monitor turned up so I could still hear each grunt, sigh and whimper. If we couldn't be physically close, at least we could be audibly. Well, at least one-way audibly. In our old house, the distance between our rooms was not that far, but... Read More

Breastfeeding and the end of maternity leave (!)

Well, it's been ten weeks and our breastfeeding sessions are no longer punctuated by my silent screams of anguish and trauma. I've ditched the breastfeeding pillows (he's big enough to hang out comfortably resting on my lap), and my issues with overactive letdown are basically resolved. JL still occasionally chokes and sputters, but he is much better able to handle the flow. The weird clicking noises he was making signfiying breaking of the air seal also... Read More

Hello, I too have a four month old son, up until this past monday he was exclusively breast fed, I started him on Rice cereal mixed with Soy Formula and now he has not pooped all week. We are at 7 days and I too used all methods I can think of organic prunes, bicycles. Unlike you I did not hold out but did call the pediatrician this past Friday. She is not concerned, but I can see why you were panicked as I am now. He passes gas all the time, and it is most unpleasant but does not show any other signs of discomfort in regards to his BM's. Did your daughter continue to go long gaps between having BM's there after? Thanks for your help!
