My Quote

"I used to have a handle on life, but it broke."

About Me

I am a 40-something lover of multi-functional gadgets and slayer of all appliances proven slow and/or inefficient, with 4 children, 2 cats, 1 super hyper sock-eating chocolate lab and 2 damned much laundry. Then, I write.

About My Family

Thisfullhouse.com is a full-frontal encounter into my life as a stay-at-home mom with four children, ages 13 to 5 years old. Enter with caution -- yes, it can get really scary -- all are welcome!

What I've Been Talking About

A Story About:

Provocative Clothing

September 07, 2007

Out of all my children (4 rugrats, at last count) I always thought of my oldest daughter as the "quiet thinker" and was disturbed by her recent attempts at [gasp] being noticed, especially by [double-gasp] BOYS!

"But, why can't I wear makeup to school?"

I wanted to tell her that it was...well, because I said so...but, I didn't wear makeup until after starting my first full-time job and 8th grade is much TOO young to be wearing the heavy eyeliner and even darker lipstick that some of her friends were sneaking, no doubt.

But, it was the fishnet stockings and mesh fingerless gloves - that her friend was wearing that day - I was worried about.

"Just be aware that you might not like all the attention."

We stopped off at the store to pick up some last minute school supplies - don't you love those? - and the cashier (a boy) started chatting with her and assumed she was a freshman in high school.

It was a one-sided conversation, as my daughter was too shocked to respond, until I intervened.

"She's in 8th grade and I'm her mother, btw."

Later, driving home, she begged me NOT to tell my husband.

"Daddy won't let me date until I'm 21, FOR SURE!"

Later, we continued our discussion about the evening's events and had a nice conversation (read: no screaming was necessary) in our driveway.

"Don't worry - I get it, Mom - I guess I'm just not used to all the attention and maybe not so ready, either."

Neither am I, kids - at least we're talking about it, thanks to the teenage delinquent, behind the counter - and I wonder if there will be a time when WE will be ready...ever.

Nice-looking suits; I also like pairing halters with swim shorts for a sporty-yet-totally-camouflaged-look ;o)

My husband grew up in a "meat and potatoes" family, where dinner was prepared by his SAHM, who followed a strict weekly menu and dessert - most likely something homemade, sticky and very sweet - sometimes came first.

My brother and I, on the other hand, enjoyed our t.v. dinners (they also came with dessert!) lovingly placed on a fold-out tray in front, well, the television.

So, all things considered - though, our eating habits have changed and... Read More

Daddy's Little Skeptic

June 08, 2007
Inspired by both my Hungarian parents and a terribly superstitious grandmother, my twin brother and I grew up in a house filled with lucky charms, herbal remedies and wonderfully scary stories of the old country.

I can still remember the times we'd spend downstairs - we shared a house and lived in a small apartment above my grandmother - curled up in her lap and listening to spirits lament the living, feeling as if they were floating just above... Read More

My New Best Find: Mr. Clean Magic Eraser

June 06, 2007
I love my three girls and cannot live a day, or kiss them goodnight, without telling them, "Mommy loves you!"

Their housekeeping habits, not so much!

Honestly, aren't girls supposed to be neater and why do my daughters insist that it's okay, living in a room so, you know?

Ick!

Don't even get me started on how long they take in the shower - I know, three girls...one bathroom...what did I expect? - thankfully, I don't... Read More
