Parent Moments: Win or Lose

My oldest daughter stood stock-still on the stage. Her dark blonde hair spilled to her waist, curled at the ends and topped with a pretty bow. Her bright blue eyes, edged with lovely, long, dark lashes, darted around the room. A nervous grin was locked on her face. She had exactly two lines for the Christmas pageant -- two lines that were suddenly too overwhelming for her to say out loud.

There is just something about the way the flavors blend together in that foil that's almost magic!

The easiest ever and most popular for this time of years is strawberry shortcake. You don't need shortcake at all, Angel Food or poundcake work wonderfully. Toss freshly sliced strawberries with a little sugar, spoon over cake and top with whipped cream - nothing easier!

Hi, Mom! Since many things cook at different rates, it can be difficult to get an entire meal in pne packet. However, corn on the cob in one packet, baby red potatoes in another and chicken in yet another would work well.

Kielbasa and sliced potatoes with red and green peppers and a bit of onion would cook nicely together.

Chicken breasts pounded thinly and sliced summer squash would also be good.

For me, a Fairy Cake would be light in color and bright in flavor, and if it were topped with what looked like little fairies that had alighted there for... Read More

This past weekend we went camping. The kids love setting up the tents and sleeping out under the stars, especially when it's only 20 feet from our back door. Yep, we set up tents in our backyard and had a blast. With gas prices as high as they are and daddy still not feeling 100%, we decided to stay home and have as much fun as possible.

We set up tents, picked up a small grill and made the most of... Read More

My kids are probably like every other kid on the planet; they want cookies year-round regardless of the weather. I'm not a 'cookie mom'. I really dislike making cookies, yet I do it often because the kids love them. I like cookies too, but baking them seems to drive me completely batty. I don't mind the unbaked kind so much because there's no waiting at the oven door for 8-10 minutes before heading back to the counter to drop or... Read More
