Freezer Bag Fashion
We have always used this trick when traveling. We even use this same trick for our emergency bin in the car. Each girl has their favorite color, so items are placed into baggies that contain their specific color. Another twist on this is to take an outfit (pants, underwear, socks) and place them inside of their coordinating shirt. I then roll the shirt into a nice log (with the other articles of clothing inside) and place inside the suitcase. I manage to pack lots more in the suitcase this way, and each shirt has a complete "outfit" so Dad or someone else can help dress the girls (handicapped) in a pinch. It always works well for us. And with the emergency bin in the car, I don't have to worry who has what, I just pull out the necessary color coded bag and we always have what is needed.
Not Acceptable?Mom's Menu
I don't do Month of Meals, but I do something similar. With handicapped girls and a husband who is frequently on call not to mention "working" myself as a volunteer, our schedule is very busy. I have a white board where I put down what meats are in the freezer under each category (fish, poultry, port, meat, etc.). On the calendar, I put the name of the individual who is responsible for taking the meat out of the freezer for that evening. Before we can get up from the table, that person must pull out the meat and put it in our "defrost place" in the fridge. Then it is up to me to make the following day. Oh, if the person who chooses forgets, they need to come up with a meal for the family (which may be as easy as cold cereal). This takes the pressure off of Mom and makes everyone have a responsibility in getting a meal on the table.
Not Acceptable?Counting Coins
Thanks for the memories. My girls used to play the dice game with us when they did chores or just wanted to earn money around the house. When they wanted something special, an ice cream cone, a toy, or whatever, they needed to learn how to come up with the "proper change" to get these items. Learning how to make change as well as counting coins was a valuable lesson for each of them. It has also taught them the value of what they are asking for. Now we hear "too many rolls of the dice and it isn't worth it". If they really want the item, then rolling dice for money for chores takes on a whole new meaning.
