My Quote
"A dollar saved is a dollar earned, but a dollar invested is even better."
About Me
After seven years as a personal financial planner, I ditched the pantyhose to stay home with my toddler. Now I'm a 30-year-old mother of two and the author of Mandajuice and The Naked Ledger.
About My Family
My husband, David, has listened to me whine for more than 10 years and is long overdue for a medal. We're the lucky parents of two deliciously edible children: Alex, age 3, and Genoa, 9 months.

Parent Moments: Cry it Out
When we decided to move from California to Washington, I didn't kid myself into thinking it would be easy. I anticipated problems with the movers and problems. I anticipated problems with the apartment we rented sight-unseen. But I had no idea it would be so tough on the kids, particularly our sleep-deprived 13-month-old daughter. I should have seen the warning signs when everything went to hell in a hand basket during our week-long transition to the new apartment.

Years ago, I smiled back at my son in the rearview mirror as we pulled away from the airport, confident that I'd discovered some secret to traveling with children. Like any brilliantly naive first-time parent, I drove away thinking I was a genius.

A few minutes before bedtime, Alex saw his stocking hanging from the mantle, where I'd put it back to stay after he'd emptied it that morning. But he just couldn't resist checking to see if he'd missed any presents from Santa. He walked up, gave the sock a yank and it became the Christmas Projectile of Doom. The heavy snow glob crashed full-speed, right into his head...

First Time Dads: How to Bond with Daughters
My husband has always dreaded changing our daughter's diaper. The funny thing is that she gives me major trouble when I do it - squirming herself around and kicking me, but when HE does it? She sits still and loves every second of it.
Not Acceptable?Outdoor Games for Toddlers
There's also nothing like a good old fashioned game of chase. My preschooler LOVES to chase me and we can sometimes even get his baby sister in on the game.
Not Acceptable?Rain Gutter Bookshelves
What a great idea. I'll have to try it out in my daughter's room.

You say it's your birthday?
So far we've had a lovely vacation (aside from a nightmarish packed flight that included magic post-landing barf). The weather is okay, not spectacular, but not the snow and hail we left up North! Unfortunately, it's not actually warm enough for me to wear most of the clothes I bought last... Read More
