"Racing Stripes" -- An abandoned zebra thinks he's a racehorse and won't let anything get in the way of his dream to race with thoroughbreds in the biggest race of all, the Kentucky Crown. (Oddly not filmed in Kentucky, but you'd never know it.) (Toddlers through school-agers)

"Dreamer" -- The inspired-by-a-true-story tale of a downtrodden racehorse trainer determined to help an injured thoroughbred return to his former racing glory. The film was shot entirely in and around Lexington, including Keeneland, Kentucky Horse Park, and along the Old Frankfort Pike. (School-agers and up)

"Seabiscuit" -- Another inspired-by-a-true-story movie, this time about a racehorse who started as a sure loser and ended up one of the country's best racehorses. (Pre-teens and teens)

"First Saturday in May" -- This documentary follows several horses as they and their handlers prepare for the Kentucky Derby over the course of a few years. Horse-loving pre-teens and teens will love the real-world access and engrossing stories featured in this award-winning movie. (Pre-teens and teens)

A Hot Brown -- The deliciously simple yet decadent open-faced sandwich with endless variations, made famous at Louisville's Brown Hotel.

Cornbread -- A staple on the Kentucky frontier and considered a dessert in those days, cornbread was a favorite of young Abraham Lincoln.

May Day Pie -- A tradition for Derby Day, the yummy chocolate tart known as May Day Pie usually includes nuts, but kids will love choosing their favorite ingredients to include: chocolate chips, whipped cream, and pecans or walnuts.

"Trapped! The Story of Floyd Collins" -- The tragic story of Floyd Collins, who in 1925 entered Sand Cave in the hope of mapping it and turning it into a tourist attraction.
