Colter Bay Visitor Center and Indian Arts Museum Description

Whether you're camping or just passing through Colter Bay Village, it's worth a stop at the visitor center. Kids can meet and talk with park rangers and sign up for the Junior Ranger Program ($1). Parents can request a worksheet for school-age kids to look for certain items in the Indian Arts Museum, a two floor gallery of art, artifacts, and even toys made by tribal members long ago.

Kid Tips

Toddlers & Pre-K: Set up a scavenger hunt for little ones to search for the color red, or items like a drum and baby shoes (downstairs).

School-Age Kids: Ask at the counter for a worksheet on the artifacts in the Indian Arts Museum that quizzes kids about the exhibits on display.

Planning Notes

    • Get a passport. If you haven't already, purchase a souvenir "Passport To Your National Parks" ($7.95) at the visitor center book store. Kids can get their passports stamped at each visitor center they visit. There are also stickers available for a small fee for each National Park, including Grand Teton.
    • Ask about a tour. Guided tours of the Indian Arts Museum are free and available throughout the summer; ask at the information desk.
    • See a show. A short (12 minute) film runs periodically throughout the day in the amphitheater at the visitor center, covering the history of and interesting facts about the park.
