Sunrise Wildlife Expedition with Teton Science Schools Description

Most people expect to go on safari in Africa, but the Teton Science Schools offer family expeditions into the wilds of Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks. Guided by naturalists with great enthusiasm for bringing wild places to life (along with antlers, animal pelts, and other props designed to keep curiosity flowing), this four-hour tour takes kids to all the secret spots where wildlife like to hang out. Every expedition is different; will you spot bison quietly grazing, an elusive wolf, perhaps a mother moose and her rust-colored calf, or maybe a bald eagle high in a tree? Binoculars in hand, kids get to peek out through the rooftop hatch at various stops along the way to spot wild things.

Kid Tips

School-Age Kids: The only thing kids need to bring is their curiosity; binoculars are provided, along with props that help demonstrate how wildlife deal with the mountain elements.

Pre-Teens & Teens: Kids with an interest in photography will want to bring their digital cameras or camcorders.

Planning Notes

    • Questions encouraged. The motto here is "the only silly question in the world is the one you don't ask." Let your kids know it's OK to ask your guide about anything related to the park: geology, ecology, or even animal poop.
    • Snacks provided. Your guide provides coffee, beverages, and snacks (granola bars, trail mix, and the like).
    • Restroom stops. Have kids go before you leave for your expedition. There are a few stops along the way with portable toilets, so tell your guide if anyone needs to use the bathroom.
