Scenic Snake River Float Trip Description
There's so much to do in Jackson Hole and Grand Teton National Park that it's almost hard to slow down and soak in all the natural beauty. A ten-mile scenic river float trip along the Snake River is a great way to do just that. Traveling on durable inflatable rafts (life vests are fitted before launching), you'll float past show-stopping scenery accompanied by bald eagle and osprey nests and even the occasional moose, elk, or mule deer along the banks. In addition to being trained in first aid and CPR, boatmen can answer just about any question about the park, river, and wildlife kids can conjure and keep the trip lively with tales of the Tetons as you quietly glide downriver.
Kid Tips
Toddlers & Pre-K: "Bouldering" might be more the speed for kids this age. Fortunately, you'll be climbing in an area dubbed "Boulder Town," and instructors help even the littlest climbers feel proud by scaling boulders that feel like mountains to them.
School-Age Kids: Ask the boatman if your child can help row the raft (and don't forget to get a photo of him or her helping out).
Pre-Teens & Teens: Older kids will probably welcome a bigger challenge, and the instructors are trained to take kids as far and high as they're comfortable going.
Planning Notes
- For kids age six and over. This is not an excursion for babies or toddlers.
- Arrive early. Be at the Jackson Lake Lodge activities desk (to the left of the front entrance) at least 15 minutes before departure.
- Dress to get wet. This isn't a whitewater rafting trip, but the possibility of being sprayed or splashed is always present, so wear water-friendly clothes and shoes.
- No flip flops. For safety reasons, flip flops aren't allowed.
- Ponchos on board. If you get caught in an afternoon rainstorm, rainproof ponchos are available for travelers.
- "Rain talk" refunds. Most trips are on, rain or shine. Your guide will give a "rain talk" before departing if the weather looks iffy, and you can choose to forge ahead, re-book, or request a refund. If you don't show for the "rain talk," you don't get a do-over or refund.
