Boat Tour
Jackson Lake Scenic Cruise from Colter Bay Marina Description
These engaging ranger-led boat tours around Jackson Lake last about an hour and a half— just the right length to keep kids' attention. The guides are typically lively and share interesting tidbits about the geology and natural history of the region, with visual aids like chunks of granite that make up the Teton range. The spectacular views of the Tetons don't hurt, either. Grab a seat toward the back, which is uncovered, for the best views (parents with squirmy preschoolers might want to sit toward the front, however, where kids can see the ranger speak). Look for bald eagle nests high in the trees along the shoreline.
Kid Tips
Babies: Odds are the motion of the boat will lull them to sleep by the time you hit open water.
Toddlers & Pre-K: Bring a daypack with items like sunglasses and binoculars to give fidgety kids something to focus on during the cruise.
School-Age Kids: Sitting in the uncovered back area of the boat offers the best views, but inquisitive kids are free to move toward the front to ask the ranger questions at any time.
Pre-Teens & Teens: The back of the boat is the place where the cool kids hang out. It's uncovered so a hat or shades are a good idea.
Planning Notes
- Babies ride for free. Kids under three don't need to pay their way to see the lake.
- Pick up last-minute items at the marina store. If you forgot to bring shades or sunscreen, you can pick them up at the marina store.
- Arrive early. Be sure to arrive at the marina about fifteen minutes before your scheduled cruise.
- Restrooms near the marina. There are no facilities on the ferries, so make sure everyone uses the washroom before you depart.
