Camping in Grand Teton National Park Description

Camping at Grand Teton National Park is a distinctive experience, where summer weather is hot and dry and nights are nice and cool for sleeping. Most campgrounds have hiking trails within their boundaries, making it easy to explore nearby lakes, rivers, and wooded areas. Whether you prefer camping in a pop-up trailer, loaded RV, or humble but fun tent, there's a place for you to camp in the Tetons. With proper planning and gear storage (a necessity in bear country), your family will sleep under the stars with a bellyful of smores, crafting memories to last a lifetime.

Kid Tips

Babies: If you'll be building a campfire, having a stroller or portable high chair seat is a great way to keep curious crawlers stationary.

Toddlers & Pre-K: Kids this age love getting good and dirty in camp. Campsites are dry and dusty, so bring a sandbox toy or two and be prepared for dirty faces, fingers, and toes.

School-Age Kids: Giving kids their own camping gear, particularly a flashlight or head lamp, makes them feel responsible and independent.

Pre-Teens & Teens: Single person tents are affordable and allow teens their own little haven where they can unwind.

Planning Notes

    • Follow bear country rules. There are strict rules in place for food storage (including water) while camping in bear country; carefully read the information provided in the Teewinot, the official park bulletin given to all visitors, as well as any notices specific to your campground.
    • Attend a campfire talk. Ranger-led campfire talks are held nightly at most campgrounds. Check your Teewinot or ask your campground host for dates and times.
