Hiking in Peninsula Park Description
Peninsula State Park offers gorgeous scenery and hiking and biking trails in a variety of difficulty levels across its nearly 4,000 acres. Located right off the main "drag" on the north side of the island, the 100-year-old state park winds along the bay and contains 20 miles of hiking trails. Kids easily spot birds, deer, and other abundant wildlife as they walk. Minehaha Trail, Sentinel Trail, White Cedar Nature Trail and Trail Tramper's Delight are easy, reasonably short trails that most kids can handle.
Kid Tips
Toddlers & Pre-K: Trail Tramper's Delight is only about a half-mile long and begins at Eagle Bluff Lighthouse, a perfect place for a pre-hike picnic.
Pre-Teens & Teens: Athletic kids enjoy the challenge of the Vita Course, a one-mile loop that incorporates exercise stations along the way.
Planning Notes
- Plan on carrying babies. Sentinel Trail is partially paved for wheelchair access; still, you're probably better off carting babies and toddlers in a backpack carrier.
