Big Bay State Park Description
Big Bay State Park has 9 miles of hiking trails, including a charming 1.25-mile walk along a wooden boardwalk right alongside the beach. It has fabulous open lawns for Frisbee, soccer, and lounging; picnic areas with tables, grills, water, and (primitive) restrooms; a day-use cabin; a family campground; and 1.5 miles of sandy beaches just begging for sand castles and moats. Your family can spend several days here and never tire of the breathtaking views, woods to explore, and wildlife to discover.
Kid Tips
Toddlers & Pre-K: If traveling with younger kids only, Big Bay Town Park is a better bet because of its calm water and shallow lagoon.
School-Age Kids: Kids this age will absolutely love this park, especially those who know how to swim.
Planning Notes
- Don't bring pets to the beach. Pets are not allowed on the beach, boardwalk, or in picnic areas. They can be in the park only if they're on a leash.
- Bring bikes. Car traffic is light. This is a nice park to explore by bicycle and there are bike racks at all the trailheads (no bikes on the trails or the boardwalks).
- An immense park. The park is much bigger than Big Bay Town Park, comprising 2,350 acres on Madeline Island.
