Big Top Chautauqua Description
Taking in a heel-stomping performance at Big Top Chautauqua is the perfect cap to a long day of island exploration. The partially mowed, super-steep hill outside begs to be climbed and run down, arms wide, shouting into the wind. Once seated, kids will wriggle and rock to the music (bluegrass, rock 'n' roll, and more) and will be intrigued by the accompanying backdrop slides, all under an enormous blue and gray, state-of-the-art canvas tent.
Kid Tips
Babies: Though they look rustic from the outside, there are changing tables in the men's and women's bathrooms.
School-Age Kids: No matter how tired they are from sight-seeing, your kids will have to join all the others hiking up the hill, so leave plenty of time before the show for exploring.
Planning Notes
- Go early. Delicious food and libations are sold at the tent. Perhaps more importantly, the kids will not forgive you if you don't allow enough time for at least one quick climb up the hill.
- Headliner shows cost more. General admission for most events is $15 for adults and $4 for kids; reserved seats cost $18 and $8, respectively. Prices are higher for big-name performers.
- Wear closed-toe shoes. Sandals are troublesome on hill climbs.
- Take the shuttle. A free shuttle stops at several places in Bayfield and drops you right at the Big Top.
