East Dock Playground Description
With a zip line, a climbing structure shaped like a ferocious dragon that's made out of tires, a climbing wall, and swings that overlook the shimmering water of Lake Superior, the East Dock Playground is phenomenal. The narrow fanlike leaves of enormous willow trees provide perfect shade, and a pleasant breeze blows off the water even on the hottest days. A twisting slide, monkey bars, telescopes, numerous picnic tables, and rocks to jump off of into the water make this one of the best places in town for families.
Kid Tips
Toddlers & Pre-K: The southwest corner of the playground, which has a musical fish, tot-sized swings, tires to climb, and a ship-shaped climbing structure with a sandbox under it, is designed for kids ages 2 to 5.
School-Age Kids: The climbing wall, painted in a vine and flower motif, has handholds and foot grips just right for kids ages 5 to 12.
Planning Notes
- Bring a picnic. Dozens of tables and benches, combined with shade trees, make this an ideal spot for a picnic lunch.
- Park restrooms. The restrooms are a bit hard to find -- they are in a brown shack diagonal from the park.
- Suit up. Visitors can swim off the rocks at the edge of the park, but there's no swimming allowed from the fishing pier.
