Pacific Science Center Description

It's easy to spend an entire day at the Pacific Science Center. The exhibits appeal to all ages and a broad range of interests, from animals to machines to nature and the human body. Don't forget to check the schedule for live demonstrations, usually conducted in a small stage area behind the dinosaur exhibit. Outside in Water Works, kids will have fun spinning a two-ton granite ball with their bare hands or walking in the giant water wheel with a couple of friends. The gift shop offers great toys, books, and gifts, but it's easy to avoid for the tantrum-prone.

Kid Tips

Babies: Crawlers will find gentle play areas in Science Playground, which includes small rooms for quiet time.

Toddlers & Pre-K: Kids love to climb, crawl, and splash their hands in Science Playground. Watch out for the Insect Village exhibit -- the giant bugs might be too scary.

School-Age Kids: Technology-minded kids will enjoy Adventures in "3Dimensions," as well as the robots and computers. And most kids in this age group are drawn to Body Works, a terrific hands-on look at the human body.

Pre-Teens & Teens: IMAX films often include a cool 3D offering, and the Planetarium and Laser Shows are always a hit.

Planning Notes

  • Check for special events. The Pacific Science Center hosts special lectures, demonstrations, and events all the time. Check the Website for the latest schedule.
  • Go on a weekday morning. Weekends can get crowded, especially in summer.
