Seattle Aquarium Description
The Seattle Aquarium isn't as large as other city aquariums, but it's quite pleasant, especially for children. They'll love the harbor seals and playful otters, as well as the giant Pacific octopus. The Wet Table is a 13-foot hands-on experience, where kids can touch rockfish, sea stars, and plankton. Feeding times are displayed prominently throughout the aquarium, and naturalists often give short talks or training demonstrations at the same time. The gift shop carries unique souvenirs and gifts.
Kid Tips
Babies: Although the aquarium is stroller friendly, several areas (like the upper viewing platform for the otters) are accessible only by stairs.
Toddlers & Pre-K: In the discovery lab, kids can touch starfish and sea sponges.
Pre-Teens & Teens: Teens will enjoy watching the moon jellyfish in the Ring of Life exhibit, as well as sharks feeding in the underwater dome.
Planning Notes
- Go in the late afternoon. Exhibits stay open an hour after the last visitors are admitted. The crowds are lighter in late afternoon, and some of the sea creatures are more active.
- Check for special events. Story-times and other kid-friendly events are offered throughout the year. Check the Website for the latest info.
- Try a combo deal. If you're planning to take an Argosy Harbor Cruise, ask about the combination package.
