Olympic Sculpture Park Description

This nine-acre waterfront park is a lovely walk in a unique setting. Kids will love the large open spaces while grown-ups can enjoy the spectacular view of the waterfront and mountains. And then there's the art: larger-than-life sculptures like the enormous orange eagle, the 150-year-old "nursing log" (harvested straight from the rainforest), and the giant typewriter eraser. Free admission, gorgeous views, and endless "Kodak moments," plus an indoor pavilion with a caf‚ and more fun for kids.

Kid Tips

Babies: The gravely paths might not be stroller friendly.

Toddlers & Pre-K: The PACCAR Pavilion has fun swinging cages that younger kids can play in, and the caf‚ offers kid fare and other picnic food.

School-Age Kids: Kids this age are surprisingly engaged by the art, especially the stainless steel tree and the eye benches.

Pre-Teens & Teens: Hand teens the camera and set them loose. Abstract sculptures, especially, will provoke thought and conversation. Why, indeed, is there a rotating ampersand? What exactly is a typewriter eraser?

Planning Notes

  • Prepare kids ahead of time for "no touching." Signs throughout the park remind visitors not to touch, but children may find some of the art pieces almost irresistible.
  • Check the Website for special events. The OSP is part of the Seattle Art Museum, which sponsors kid-friendly events at the park at least once a month.
