Horseback Riding at Horseshu Ranch Description
If the kids are "whaled out," a horseback riding adventure can give them a great change of pace plus a hands-on experience with animals. Rookie cowpokes will learn to ride quickly on this 16-acre ranch through private or group lessons, and even the youngest kids can take a "Giddy-Up Ride" with gentle ponies on lead-lines. More experienced riders can reserve a scenic trail ride out of Roche Harbor through island forest, a great off-season activity when the whales are hiding, the leaves are turning, and the crowds have gone home.
Kid Tips
Toddlers & Pre-K: Kids as young as two can take a Giddy-Up ride, with a parent or guardian standing next to them.
Planning Notes
- Reservations are required for trail rides. Group rides can accommodate up to six people.
- Wear long pants and closed-toe shoes. Riding boots with a heel are ideal, but not necessary. Shorts are discouraged, since riding can chafe bare legs.
- Schedule trail rides in the fall. Although you can take a trail ride in the summer, the fall rides are especially beautiful and less crowded.
