Fishing at Lakedale Resort Description
There's no shortage of high-end fishing outfitters and deep-sea tours in the San Juan Islands, but the hands-down family favorite is fishing at Lakedale Resort. Go to the General Store to rent a fishing pole and buy some worms, stroll across the dirt road, and cast your line from the dock into a lake well-stocked with trout. Catch and release or catch and eat -- it's your choice. If you're feeling lucky, enter the daily fishing derby for a chance to win a free week of camping.
Kid Tips
School-Age Kids: Worms on hooks are a big discussion starter, so be prepared to talk about the food chain and the cycle of life. You may also end up doing the "dirty work" yourself.
Pre-Teens & Teens: Fishing from the dock might be a little tame for older kids. Rent a rowboat and let them explore the lake, including the small island in the middle.
Planning Notes
- Bring a hat and sunscreen. The fishing dock is in the sun, though nearby trees provide a little shade if kids need a break.
- Bring a swimsuit and towels. Once kids are done fishing, you can also rent rowboats, paddleboats, and canoes, or take a dip in the swimming area.
- Buy lunch at the General Store. Spread out on the picnic table in front of the store (open daily from 8 a.m.-9 p.m.), or find a spot on a shady, flat rock or on the beach.
