Sea Kayaking with San Juan Outfitters Description

Nature comes alive for kids as they hold jellyfish and sea stars, search for seals and otters among the kelp, and learn to paddle a kayak through sheltered and calm waters. With child-friendly guides and three nearby National Wildlife Refuges, the Family Kayak Tours are a perfect way to introduce kids to the sport. For kids who fall in love with it, the guides are happy to schedule extra time for more kayaking. Afterward, celebrate at the Beechtree Espresso & Ice Cream Emporium, just steps from the kayak docks.

Kid Tips

School-Age Kids: The family tour is perfect for this age group.

Pre-Teens & Teens: The family tour is great for novice kayakers of any age, but older kids may also enjoy the regular three-hour kayak tour or the slower-paced but spectacular sunset tour.

Planning Notes

Ages 6 and older. Younger children cannot be accommodated.
Reservations required. Call 360-378-1962 for reservations or make them online.
Use the Roche Harbor location. The waters are calmer and more sheltered than Friday Harbor; perfect for children and novices.
Wear a jacket or fleece. Even on hot summer days, temperatures on the water can be significantly cooler. But don't wear cotton -- if it gets wet, you'll feel even colder.
