Carriage and Wagon Rides Description
Riding through the historic district is quite a celebrity moment for kids of all ages. They'll be surprised at the very bumpy ride of even the prettiest carriage, and love the chance to quiz the driver about the horses and just how they can pull such a heavy load. Traveling in the governor's ride is a special treat, especially if kitted out in full colonial regalia; the coach tours the entire historic area, allowing plenty of opportunity for girls to perfect their parade waves as they pass by their subjects.
Kid Tips
Babies: The carriages don't have storage space for strollers, but they can be left at the departure point.
School-Age Kids: Kids this age will thrill at the chance to wave at the curious crowds.
Planning Notes
- Beat the crowd. Tickets for the carriage rides are sold on a daily basis (no advance tickets can be purchased) -- it's best to buy tickets first thing in the morning to ensure a ride. Tickets are available throughout the historic area, including the visitor center.
- Admission required. As with most programs, carriage rides require paid admission to Colonial Williamsburg.
- Weather dependent. Rides are cancelled if inclement weather rolls in; tickets will be honored for the next day or refunded.
