Apprentice Goes to the Farm Description
Kids will have first-hand knowledge of and appreciation for the hard life of a colonial child and the ins and outs of working a plantation at the conclusion of this 90-minute demonstration program -- and will love every minute it. Kids as young as 7 or 8 work alongside costumed interpreters doing the same tasks their counterparts did in colonial days: drawing water from the well, sawing logs to create planks for a building, and planting or harvesting vegetables and other crops. After the (fun) work comes the reward -- treat bags with cookies and other goodies.
Kid Tips
Toddlers & Pre-K: Sit this one out.
School-Age Kids: This activity is geared toward kids ages 5 to 10. It's a perfect fit for active children, but only if they're interested enough to participate for 90 minutes.
Pre-Teens & Teens: Surprisingly, many preteens lose themselves in the work, even when dressed in costume on a blistering hot day. Most teenagers, however, will want to pass.
Planning Notes
- Tiring work. Bring water along -- it's tough work being an apprentice on the farm, and water isn't readily available.
- Williamsburg admission ticket required. The fee for this program is in addition to the Colonial Williamsburg admission charge.
