Yorktown Victory Center Description
Kids can literally walk the path of America's history, from British colony to independent country, at the Yorktown Victory Center; the outdoor walkway/timeline leads to indoor exhibits that show the events leading up to and through the Revolutionary War through the eyes of ordinary people. Outside, exhibits are all about hands-on learning, from exploring a Continental Army encampment to trying on reproduction clothing to working on a 1780s farm alongside costumed interpreters.
Kid Tips
Babies: The Victory Center is stroller-friendly. The noisy musket and cannon demonstrations may startle young ones (they take place mostly during the busy summer months and holiday or special event weekends).
School-Age Kids: Don't miss the chance to try on a soldier's kit from head to toe -- brass buckles, wool coats, and all. Kids this age will be surprisingly eager to help work on the farm, picking plants or feeding animals.
Planning Notes
- Package deal. A combination entrance fee gives access to both the Yorktown Victory Center and Jamestown Settlement; the historic sites of Jamestowne and the Yorktown Battlefield require separate admission fees.
- Pack a picnic. Picnic tables are scattered throughout the grounds for visitors' use, and box lunches from the Jamestown Settlement Café can be ordered ahead of time and picked up at the Victory Center. There are no food services on-site, but vending machines are available for drinks and snacks.
