Patriot Cruise Description

Take a slow journey back in time as you travel up the Miles River from St. Michael's on this narrated cruise, learning about the history of the town (it's known as "the town that fooled the British" from a skirmish during the War of 1812), the river (part of the Chesapeake Bay Estuary), the homes that flank it, and the wildlife (above water and below) that call it home. It's a relaxing, tranquil way to see the Bay.

Kid Tips

Babies: The combination of calm water and a big boat mean the ride is exceptionally smooth -- it's ideal for babies.

Toddlers & Pre-K: If little ones get antsy, the snack bar has crayons and Patriot-themed paper placemats for doodling on.

Pre-Teens & Teens: Older kids will be bored. Sign them up for a class or seminar at the Maritime Museum instead, and take the cruise alone or with younger kids.

Planning Notes

  • Board early for the best seats. The air-conditioned main deck fills up quickly on hot days; head immediately to the upper deck if the weather's nice (some portions covered, others not).
  • Not for thrill-seekers. The cruise is a delightful way to get out on the water and learn about this part of the Chesapeake Bay, but it's a tame outing.
  • Snacks available for purchase. A small bar on the main deck sells snacks and drinks, including beer, wine, and spirits. No food or drinks may be brought on-board.
  • Combine with a museum trip. The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum is just steps away from the boarding dock.
