Bebee Ranch Description

For fans of Marguerite Henry's "Misty of Chincoteague" and "Stormy, Misty's Foal," a visit to Bebee's Ranch brings the stories to life. Stroll through Misty and Stormy's stable (Misty's saddle hasn't been moved in four decades); watch a film about the Bebee family and their horses; meet Billy (grandson of Grandma and Grandpa Beebe and, along with his brothers, the inspiration for some of the "Stormy" book); view pictures and other family memorabilia; and pet Angel, a great-great granddaughter of Misty. Misty and Stormy are there, too -- preserved and available for viewing and photo-taking in a side room of the house.

Kid Tips

Toddlers & Pre-K: Kids 5 and younger are admitted free; kids 6 and older and adults cost $5.

School-Age Kids: Viewing the taxidermied Misty and Stormy is optional -- they're in a separate room behind a curtain. If kids are unsure, they can completely skip it or just take a peek to gauge their comfort level.

Planning Notes

Smaller than you imagine. The ranch has been subdivided, and today the Bebee house and barn are in a residential area.
Reasonably priced souvenirs. Books, videos, postcards, and the like (many autographed or available to be autographed by Billy) are for sale in the small store. Visa and MasterCard are accepted.
Not for everyone. Fans of the books will remember the beloved stories with renewed affection after a trip to the ranch; nonfans will see an aging barn. Only true fans should make this stop.
