Captain Barry's Back Bay Cruise Description
Even the most timid of kids will return from one of Captain Barry's Bay cruises confident in her skills as a crabber, proud of the black marsh sand that covers her feet, boasting about her ability to distinguish different types of jellyfish, and amazed by the wonders the Bay holds. Captain Barry's enthusiasm is instantly contagious and engaging for kids and adults. The whole family will return smiling, happily chanting "Ahoy, mateys!" to new friends, much more knowledgeable about the Bay and island life, and eager to return next year for another cruise.
Kid Tips
Babies: Kids from crawlers on up will absolutely love the trip. Even the youngest sailors get in on the action.
Pre-Teens & Teens: Kids 12 and older can take the cruise without a parent on-board, but mom and dad will really be missing out. Watching hesitant kids fearlessly pick up a jellyfish or hold a live crab is priceless.
Planning Notes
- A truly remarkable experience. This cruise should not be missed. Call in advance of your trip to reserve your time slot -- ideally at the beginning of your Chincoteague vacation, as the insights into the island and Bay life (both the human residents and the undersea creatures) will be beneficial during your stay.
- Swimsuits and shorts. Dress kids in swimsuits and adults in shorts. There is no swimming while on the cruise, but feet and legs will get sandy and wet, and kids may want to sit in the wet sand.
- Great for kids of all abilities. Captain Barry tailors the trip to the ages, abilities, and comfort levels of children. It's an intimate experience; everyone participates in the learning and fun.
- All about kids. Mom and Dad are only back-ups on Captain Barry's boat -- the kids do it all, even things you wouldn't think they're capable of.
- Bring bug spray. You will have unpleasant souvenirs from the cruise (particularly the sunset cruise) if you don't use it.
- Cash only. No checks or credit cards are accepted. Reservations must be made in advance.
