Mossy Cave Trail Description
A perfect family hike with little bridges to cross Tropic Ditch and interpretive placards that explain the topography, the Mossy Cave Trail is right on route 12. Park and hike up the nearly half-mile trail to visit a dripping cave with moss growing on the sides and ceiling, and a small but magnificent waterfall. Kids can put their tired tootsies in the rushing water of Tropic Ditch (some have been known to go in clothed, the water's that enticing) alongside the trail.

Kid Tips
Toddlers & Pre-K: The steep, albeit short, ascent might be too much for younger kids to hike. Bring a backpack carrier in case they tucker out.
Pre-Teens & Teens: Young adults will energetically hop the rocks, ford Tropic Ditch, and climb up the steep trail that leads to a lookout through the hoodoos on the other side, and will be glad they did it.
Planning Notes
- Bring water shoes. The creek is rocky.
- Give yourself enough time. With some steep parts and many appealing diversions (like throwing rocks in the water from the bridges), this trail will take longer to hike than you'd think.
