Junior Ranger Program, Zion National Park Description

If your schedule permits, sign your child up for the Junior Ranger Program. Designed with children ages 6 to 12 in mind, these educational programs take place at the Zion Nature Center (near the entrance to South Campground, half a mile north of the south park entrance) and include a variety of activites that teach kids about the flora, fauna, and topography of the park. Choose from two different programs: the drop-off Junior Ranger Explorer, which lasts 2.5 hours, and the Junior Ranger Discovery, which lasts 1.5 hours and requires parental participation.

Kid Tips

School-Age Kids: Children under age 6 aren't eligible for these programs but can complete an activity sheet to earn a decal (available at the Zion Canyon Visitor Center). Kids ages 6 to 12 who elect not to do a ranger program can still earn a badge for completing an activity book, available for $1 at the visitor center.

Planning Notes

    • Eat before going. No food or snacks are served during either program.
    • Wear closed-toe shoes. Activities are held outside and no sandals are allowed.
    • BYOW. Bring your own water.
    • Be prompt. Programs start right on time, and kids need to arrive 15 minutes early to register.
