Zion Canyon Visitor Center Description
The visitor center at Zion is more impressive than most: it has a huge bookstore with books on every possible local subject, a display outside that not only has detailed information about the park but also explains the ecological design of the building (which stays cool without air conditioning even when it's well over 100 degrees outside), and staff members poised to pass out maps and give information about everything in the park (including back country hikes).
Kid Tips
School-Age Kids: The park has a Junior Rangers program with activities (some drop-off, some requiring parental participation). Check the daily schedule and sign up for them here.
Pre-Teens & Teens: Young adults will enjoy the ranger-led hikes and the ranger-narrated shuttle bus ride. Schedules vary -- visit the center for the schedule and to sign up.
Planning Notes
- Use the restrooms. Aside from the ones at Zion Lodge, these are the nicest you'll find.
- Ditch your car. Once in Springdale, catch the free shuttle bus to the visitor center. Many visitors leave their cars at the center, but parking is limited and it is less expensive to enter the park on foot.
