Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument Canyonville Visitor Center Description
This visitors center has much more to offer than maps and up-to-date information about Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. There's a hadrosaur dinosaur skull on display, comfortable couches in front of a fireplace, oral histories of early settlers and Native Americans to listen to on headphones, a fascinating 15-minute DVD called "Traces in Time" that explains the rock formations of the Grand Staircase, displays of Native American artifacts, and more. Look at the listings of local events for kids (like scorpion hunting and working in a real paleontology lab), and check out the outdoor displays as well.
