Liberty Park Description
It's Salt Lake City's version of Manhattan's Central Park, with more than 100 acres, lots of space for outdoor activities (playgrounds, picnic areas, large grassy lawns, horseshoe pits, basketball courts, volleyball courts, tennis courts, and jogging paths, to name a few), and much-needed summertime shade. Don't leave without experiencing the public aviary (with hundreds of birds), the aquatic center (just south of the tennis courts), and a well used and much loved water fountain.
Kid Tips
Toddlers & Pre-K: They'll go crazy for the Seven Canyons water fountain, which is shallow enough for small waders. The central playground is a huge hit with this set as well.
School-Age Kids: Pony up for the paddle boats—they'll love every minute of it. The amusement park's chair swings, little cars, a merry-go-round, and Ferris wheel are perfect for younger school-aged kids.
Planning Notes
- Water time! Bring a towel and dry clothes—the kids will want to splash.
- Multitrip Combine with a visit to the Hogel Zoo or the Red Butte Gardens. Each is about 4 miles away (a 10-minute drive).
- Have a picnic. The Liberty Park Grill has concessions year round. Loll under a tree and eat under the blue sky.
