Snowbird Ski & Summer Resort Description

Smell the pine and birch, and hear the sound of running water from the rushing snowmelt down the mountain creeks? Although Snowbird is best known as a ski resort, it doesn't sleep other times of year. Instead, a variety of activities (including a mechanical bull, an alpine slide, a zipline, bounce castle, and bungee jumping) combined with the cooler temperatures at higher altitudes and a magnificent tram ride to the top of the mountain make this an ideal retreat for families in the summer as well as the winter.

  • Amusement Park

  • Skiing

  • Ice Skating

  • Hiking

  • Bicycling

  • Swimming

  • Horseback Riding

  • Live Music Venue

  • Gondola

Kid Tips

Babies: The resort's wintertime Camp Snowbird provides a fun environment for infants to age 3 while parents ski.

Toddlers & Pre-K: The Bounce Castle is for kids under 75 pounds only. Kids as young as three can ski with the mini Miner's Camp.

Pre-Teens & Teens: "Look at the fox!" cried one 15-year-old as he saw it scamper into the trees below. The tram climbs 2,700 vertical feet and the ear-popping 8-minute ride is vertiginous.

Planning Notes

    • Ski in Summer Snowbird doesn't usually close until Memorial Day, and backcountry skiing is typically available even in July (and sometimes into August).
    • Bring your hiking shoes. They're a necessity for exploring the trails in the summertime.
    • Consider wristbands. If your kids want to do the alpine slide (accessible by chair lift only) several times, it will be cheaper to get them a full-day wrist band than to pay as you go.
    • Ski school. Mountain ski school is available during the ski season for kids ages 3 to 15. Call 801-933-2170, ext. 5170, for details.
