Hogle Zoo Description
A welcoming zoo with hundreds of animals, the Hogle Zoo has something for everyone: a pachyderm program for elephant lovers, and clever exhibits like one where children stick their heads up from an underground cave to look at marmots, gophers, and skunks scurrying around their habitats and another where kids become a zookeeper for the day (advanced registration necessary). Their primate collection is impressive: hear the hnim-mm-mm call of the spider monkeys and don't miss the black and white Eastern Colobus monkeys—the only Old World monkeys without opposable thumbs.
Kid Tips
Babies: Nursing mothers can sit in one of several rocking chairs in a dedicated area inside the women's restroom near the entrance.
Toddlers & Pre-K: Discovery Land, with its Conservation Carousel (42 different hand-carved exotic animals) and train ride, is a surefire hit.
School-Age Kids: "What are those monkeys doing, Mommy?" is an uncomfortable question you're apt to hear when you walk through the Great Apes exhibit—the zoo is keeping males and females together in an effort to breed endangered animals.
