Capitol Theatre Description
Pre-WWI grandeur complete with gilded embellishments and a multicolored stone façade make this theater a beautiful (in a vaudeville, beaux arts kind of way) place to see a show. The theatre was designed by San Francisco architect G. Albert Lansburgh, and tickets in 1913 sold for between 10 and 25 cents each (no deals like that these days!). An $8.6 million renovation completed in 1978 means that you can see theater, dance, opera, and music (many geared toward kids school-age and up) at the Capitol now. "Look at the chandeliers!" cried one 7-year-old, thinking she'd come to a palace, not a performance.

School-Age Kids: Most performances start early enough to make attending one do-able with kids over eight.
Planning Notes
- Even babes in arms pay. Everyone must have a ticket regardless of age.
- Go early. Doors open 30 minutes before each show, giving you time to look at the building and buy a drink (no outside food or drinks are allowed).
