Park City Mountain Resort Description

Smell the pine and birch, and hear the sound of running water from the rushing snowmelt down the mountain creeks? Although Park City Mountain is best known as a ski resort, it doesn't sleep other times of year. Instead, a variety of activities combined with the cooler temperatures at higher altitudes and a magnificent tram ride to the top of the mountain make this an ideal retreat for families in the summer as well as the winter. But it's terrific in the winter months as well! Check out our article for more tips and information on a family ski adventure in Park City.

Kid Tips

Babies: Leave the wee ones at the nursery or bring grandma and grandpa along to supervise while you hit the slopes.

Toddlers & Pre-K: The Signature 3 program, a well-planned winter wonderland for kids ages 3 1/2 to 5, gets kids fitted with their rental equipment right there. The hang-out area includes a playroom, reading room, a lunch room where an entrée is served (along with plain pasta or PBJ for picky eaters). Kids ski with an instructor in groups of three (wow!), and can progress to the "first time lift" if they are ready for a challenge.

School-Age Kids: Thanks to a terrific ski school, even your little kids will be shooting down the slopes in no time (or sticking to the bunny hills - the instructors are really caring and nurturing). The Signature 5 program is designed for skiers and snowboarders ages 6 to 14.

Planning Notes

  • Skip the car With a free city shuttle running around town every 20 minutes (plus many condo complexes running their own shuttles), there's little need for a car once you get there.
  • Santa Claus is Coming to TownWant to see Santa Claus arrive in town via the ski lift? This family event is orchestrated each year in December, and comes complete with free hot cocoa and cookies, along with a live storytelling of "How the Grinch Stole Christmas."
