This is the Place! Heritage Park Description
Walk into This Is The Place! and you'll feel like you've been transported to the Wild West. Named after a quote from Mormon pioneer Brigham Young (who reportedly saw the Salt Lake valley and exalted that he had found where he and his followers should settle), the park has more than 40 buildings to visit with activities in each (from a tin shop to a petting zoo) and over 1,600 acres (including lots of open spaces for wagon and pony rides). Your family can walk the trail used by Mormon pioneers and also visit original Pioneer buildings.
Kid Tips
Toddlers & Pre-K: The Pioneer Playground, a petting corral, pony rides, and a replica train keep those with short attention spans engaged.
Pre-Teens & Teens: Older kids interested in all things Mormon will enjoy all of the history.
Planning Notes
- See a puppet show. The all-ages shows are held at the Madsen Furniture Co. every half an hour beginning at 10 a.m.
- Bring a sun hat and sunscreen. Though buildings are air conditioned, temperatures outside soar in the summer months.
- Expect extra charges. Although unlimited train rides and three activities are included in the price of admission, nominal fees apply for some activities and attractions (including wagon rides).
- Close to the zoo. The park is just down the street from the Hogle Zoo. If you've got the energy, you can visit both in one day.
