Schlitterbahn Galveston Island Description
Just about every name here contains some ominous yet fully descriptive word like "blaster," "cliffhanger," or "tempest," all of which will ring like music in kids' ears. Galveston is a billion degrees in summer, and you'll be a hero to your kids for partaking of contraptions like Faust and Furious or Rohr (a 70-foot drop) -- and you'll have a ball, too. Grab a swimsuit (moms: make it a one-piece), get the towels, the kids, and ... Blastenhoff.
Kid Tips
Toddlers & Pre-K: A regular old swimming pool would probably do just as well. If you've got older kids who need appeasing, there are plenty of spots to cool off little ones, including the Wasserfest Kids' Area and Treasure Island Kids' Pool.
School-Age Kids: Height requirements for the big thrills start at about 40 inches. Check the website before promising a visit if a not-quite-40-inches member of the family will experience continual disappointment.
Planning Notes
- An obvious draw. The park rises over the Moody Gardens parking lot. You can't miss it on the way in, and neither will kids. If you don't come when visiting Moody, plan to come back another day.
- The ride's the thing. From the outside, the park (essentially located in a parking lot) is less than scenic. What counts, however, is the fun you'll have inside.
- Say "aaaahh." The Wasserfest Hot Tub, a 1,100-square-foot spa with swim-up bar, is mighty relaxing.
- Feel free to picnic. Food is available in the park, or you can bring your own.
