Ghost Tours of Galveston Description

Scary stories, spectral visions, the pirate Jean Lafitte -- they're all part of the Ghost Tours of Galveston experience. Colorful guide Dash Beardsley, a vision in black with a long coat sweeping behind him, leads the group along the historic Strand, past gas-lit lamps and horse-drawn carriages, telling about old Galveston and the ghosts who still reside there. It's only a moderately scary romp, with Dash pointing out where Civil War soldiers still guard or where a headless guy searches for his noggin. Will you actually see a ghost? Probably not, but Dash's earnest, eccentric style makes you believe it's possible.

Kid Tips

School-Age Kids: Dash likes kids and is happy to answer questions.

Pre-Teens & Teens: The tour is a great romp for a group of older kids, who will enjoy being scared en mass. Expect them to be more spooked by the causes of the haunting than by the ghosts themselves -- Dash goes into great detail about the numerous deaths from the Great Storm of 1900.

Planning Notes

  • Check the schedule. Tours run on Dash time, meaning schedules change week to week. Call ahead to ensure there's a tour during your visit.
  • Long walk. The trip is billed as about a two-hour tour, but the adventure can hover close to three hours start to finish. Consider young attention spans accordingly.
  • Payment plan. Cash only.
  • No reservations.Come at will; just make sure to arrive on the dot so as not to miss departure.
  • Group tours. Large families can ask about private tours by calling 832-892-7419.
