Lee and Joe Jamail Skatepark Description
How do you find the new skateboard park near downtown Houston? Follow the skateboarders. They're drawn from all over like surfers to the waves, carving, "ollieing," and grinding (ask your kids -- they'll know) around all manner of bowls, rails, and street scapes. Christened in June 2008, the place has wowed the skateboard set with its super size -- "The best place anywhere to skate right now!" gushed one young rider -- and wide-open location. Don't have a skateboard? The show of riders alone is plenty entertaining.
Kid Tips
School-Age Kids: They'll love it here. Anyone under 10 requires a parent to be on-site at all times.
Pre-Teens & Teens: Ultra-friendly professionals staff the place and are happy to dole out pointers. Even if you're not skating, you might be able to score a few tips.
Planning Notes
- Boards and skates. Acrobatics are limited to those done on skateboards, in-line skates, and traditional skates. No bikes, scooters, or motorized vehicles.
- Bring head gear. Helmets are required.
- Bring your own wheels. There are no rentals on-site.
- No food service. They're working on a vendor, but for now, you'll have to go elsewhere to eat or bring a picnic.
