Fossil Rim Wildlife Center Description
The African savannah is transported to North Texas at Fossil Rim, where zebras, giraffes and, other exotic creatures freely roam. Tours are either self-guided or guided, and there's never a rush to explore as thoroughly as the kids want. An on-site restaurant offers an overlook of the park and its amazing animals, while guided tours give a wealth of opportunities for kids to get super-close to the animals, including the chance to feed some.
Kid Tips
Babies: If you're driving yourselves, then simply keep baby strapped in the car seat. Car seats can also be taken on the guided tours.
Toddlers & Pre-K: Best to drive yourselves as you can pace yourselves; be sure to use a stop at the petting area as a carrot to keep the trip on track.
Pre-Teens & Teens: The after-dark tour is a bit scary — but in a good way — and includes the chance to feed animals and use spotlights to find nocturnal creatures.
Planning Notes
- Be on time The last visitors are allowed in two hours before closing time, so check the Web site before arriving.
- Reserve in advance. Guided tours require advance reservations.
- Rain or shine. Not unexpectedly, the animals are out in all kinds of weather; the park occasionally closes for severe weather.
