Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge Description
A natural wonderland that's chock-full of fun for kids, from watching the bison herd to feeding them (via a hayride), canoeing, and guided hikes. Interpretive programs run throughout the year, while day camps are offered in the summer for kids from kindergarten through eighth grade and include age-appropriate activities, from building a log raft to getting up close and personal with (YUCK!) bugs. More than one-dozen trails offer families of every size the chance to explore, from quarter-mile jaunts to three-mile hikes.
Kid Tips
Babies: Most rails aren't suitable for strollers; try Limestone Ledge or the Boardwalk Loop if you need to stroll.
Toddlers & Pre-K: Give them a good leg stretching — and some up-close time with prarie dogs — on the one-mile Prarie trail.
Pre-Teens & Teens: Call ahead for a guided canoe tour to get them up close with beaver dams and other wild sights.
Planning Notes
- Interpret this. The center's interpretive center closes each day at 4:30 p.m.

- Short on time? The main roads leads right to the bison viewing area if you're making just a quick stop.
